There were exceptions, of course. Much of the information presented in this book deals with wealthy and middle-class people. They rarely mention poopy streets or body odor. Visitors to early America do, though, so they were another good source for details about life in this era. I didn’t write about the grosser aspects of life long ago in order to make fun of early Americans.
