Only time will tell how long this book remains current. Certain deficiencies in the previous edition were recognized by us, most specifically the level of information on the foal. We have aimed to remedy that by attempt- ing to make the foal section the most comprehensive treatise of foal diseases and management written to date. The recognition that veterinarians working on breeding farms need to provide advice on non-reproductive management, and the requirement on many farms to radiograph pre-sale and examine the upper respiratory system with endoscopy, has resulted in specific chapters to address those issues.
Editing the contributors has been an enriching experience for both of us. The satisfaction from learning something new in each chapter has been incalculable.
