The result is that the offspring differs unexpectedly from the parent that has been exposed to the mutagen. 2 How do mutations occur? Anything that has the ability to cause an alteration in the genetic material of the cell which can then be replicated is called a mutagen and as such it may produce a mutation.

There are two main populations of lymphocytes involved in the immune response. These are the T-lymphocytes (often known as T-cells) and the B-lymphocytes (B-cells). The immune response can be mediated by either the B-lymphocytes (B-cells), which is called antibody-mediated immune response, and which involves the production of immunoglobulins (or what are more commonly known as antibodies, examples of which include IgE, IgM and IgG), otherwise it can be mediated by the T-lymphocytes (T-cells), in which case it is known as a cell-mediated immune response.
